What makes your building green?

The question we get most often about our new headquarters building is, “So what makes your building green?”

Of course, that’s green as in environmentally friendly. Here is a list with some of the reasons:

  • Reused existing building – Eliminates demolition and minimizes the amount of construction waste sent to the landfill.
  • Eco-friendly roof – Corrugated steel roof was manufactured 2 ½ miles away which reduces transportation impact, has a 100-year life, and is recyclable at the end of its life
  • Mezzanines –added about 2,300 square feet without increasing the building’s footprint, thus preserving green space
  • Skylights – installed eight to provide natural lighting and reduce the need for electrical lighting
  • Lighting – high-efficiency florescent light bulbs used throughout
  • Ceiling fans – installed to reduce HVAC usage and improve air circulation.
  • Natural, durable, and renewable materials used – granite, glass, wood, bamboo, cork, and concrete
  • Permeable parking lots – Gravel surface will allow storm water to recharge and reduce storm water run-off
  • Landscaping – native or low-to-zero maintenance plants
  • Hot Water Heater – An on-demand, tank-less hot water heater is 30% more efficient than standard hot water heaters.
  • Eco-Friendly Pesticide injected into the building’s framing.
  • Through the Public Works Commission’s CONSERT Pilot Program, Moore Exposure can modify settings of key electrical appliances via the internet.
  • Shower Room –encourages employees to bike or walk to work and exercise during lunch
  • Low-flush Toilets
  • All appliances are Energy-Star approved.
  • Kitchen sink faucet sensor prevents water from running unnecessarily.
  • Water cooler dispenses filtered hot or cold water directly from the main water line. No bottled water will be purchased.
  • Kitchenware – No disposable plates, cups, flatware
  • LED exit lights – Use a minimal amount of electricity.
  • On site Recycling
  • Cleaning– Moore Exposure uses a Certified Sustainable Sandhills Green Business Program cleaning company, Sparkle Clean, which utilizes only natural, bio-based cleaning products.
